Siloam Springs Farmers Market at the Dogwood Festival

www.siloamsprings.locallygrown.net

The second week of market season was great! If you haven’t met David Mitchell of Dos Locos Farm make sure you stop and talk to him about his product. He sells lamb and goat and provides information about how to prepare each cut. This is our first year to have lamb. I noticed Ridgeline Farms Gourmet Microgreens had some mint for sale last weekend. That might work very nicely with lamb.

This coming Saturday, April 28th, the market will move to the Arvest Bank parking lot, downtown, across from 28 Springs Restaurant. We will be there from 8 am to 1 pm so come by and do your shopping before or after visiting the festival. There is a possibility there will be STRAWBERRIES this weekend!

Thank you for supporting our local farmers, makers, and bakers. See you Saturday!

Online Market is Open!

We had a successful opening day Saturday despite the cold temperatures. Thank you to everyone that came out to support local farmers, makers, and bakers!

Arkansabi Farms has produce listed online this week. You can shop for your groceries, place your order, and pick it up at the Market Welcome Station Saturday morning.

Have a great week and see you Saturday!

Two more weeks until we move outdoors! Hope you are watching Facebook and Instagram for our Faces of the Farmers Market campaign. I’ve shared the press release we sent out below. It’s going to be a great year!

Opening day will feature our first Kids Day for the season with free activities from 9 am to noon. Dragonfly
Studios will be with us offering amazing face painting services. Willi Carlisle, a local musician, will be playing
music from 10 am to noon. Your favorite farmers and vendors are returning and there will be a few new
vendors for you to meet and welcome to our market family!
Those who receive SNAP/EBT benefits may purchase tokens at the market to use to purchase eggs, meat,
produce and baked goods all season. The market also participates in a Double Dollar program that provides
funds to match SNAP/EBT and Senior Voucher purchases.
“We’re partnering again this year with the Benton County Master Gardeners and the Siloam Springs Museum
to host second Saturday Kids Days April through September, as well as planning a calendar of events with
special programs most Saturdays,” explained market manager Stacy Hester. “The Power of Produce returns
this season providing a fun opportunity for children to engage in the local food system through conversations
directly with farmers, educational games and demonstrations, and exposure to new fruits and vegetables. In
addition to participating in educational activities, POP Club kids receive vouchers to spend at the market,
allowing them to make their own shopping decisions at the market. We will have live music, monthly cooking
demonstrations and more. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram for programming updates and
watch for a preview of our farmers, makers, and bakers in our Faces of the Farmers Market campaign”.
The Siloam Springs Farmers Market is a program of Main Street Siloam Springs.

Have a great week and see ya Saturday!

Apologies this is late. I just realized it didn’t work the first time.

This week our office staff is in Kansas City at the Main Street America Conference. Tomorrow I get to take a tour of the Overland Park Farmers Market.

Bad Dog Beanery is back so get your coffee this, week.
Honey, bread, meats, and eggs are all available. This week there is spinach and radishes available from Arkansabi Farms. Opossum Hollow is taking a break and sent this message for you all:

… to all of our over winter on-line market customers. Its been a good off season and we really appreciate everyone’s patronage. We look forward to next winter and expanding to add (with luck) onions, carrots, and radishes to our over winter line up. We have also altered some of our high tunnel methods so that we can beef up our offerings consistently all the way from November through the 1st of April. The time has come for us to focus our efforts on the outdoor market and we can’t wait to see you all there, just two weeks from Saturday!  Thanks again!

Chicken drumsticks from R Family Farm are on sale as long as inventory lasts. Get 2-2.5 lbs for $7!

Opossum Hollow has kale and lettuce available.

Our farmers are hard at work tending to the seedlings planted weeks ago. Potatoes are in the ground. Chicks are being raised and baby calves are being born. Bees are gathering pollen on warm days and taking it back to the hive to fill the frames and make honey.

Outdoor market season is getting closer. Mark your calendars for opening day on April 14th!

May your week be filled with blessings and joy! See you Saturday!

Last week steering committee members and I began visiting farms in preparation for approving the farmer/vendor applications for 2018! We are truly excited about those who will be returning as well as a few new additions. Watch out Facebook page as we begin introducing this year’s vendors.

Produce is making a comeback and sells out quickly, but if the inventory is low today please check back tomorrow. With the farmers out in the field more right now sometimes they update inventory a little later than normal.

Enjoy the week and see you Saturday!

Produce is back! Check Out the Online Market

This week we have cabbage, 2 types of lettuce, and 2 types of kale, along with sorrel (in the herb category), and microgreens.

We begin farm visits this week and couldn’t be more excited to get out and visit all of our farmers and potential new farmers. Before you know it, April 14th will be here and the outdoor market will return. We will be set up in the same location this year in City Park. The only exception will be Dogwood Festival weekend and we will set up in the Arvest Bank parking lot downtown.

Just a reminder that we now accept credit/debit cards as payment online when you place your order. The payments however will not process until after your order is picked up just in case part of your order is not delivered or you need to make a change. We hope that will ensure that you are only being charged for what you actually pick up. It’s a rare occasion that a farmer can’t deliver and is usually weather related when that happens.

Thank you for buying local!

See you Saturday!

The sale on Jalapeno Cheddar Brats continues ($9 a pkg) and Chicken Frames are on sale this week as well. Watch for additional sales all month as R Family Farm is clearing out their freezers and getting ready for spring markets!

All the rain helped fill the water table and hopefully will benefit our farmers. The sun was a welcome sight yesterday.

Have a great week and see you Saturday!
