It’s been difficult to read all the stories about the flooding and devastation in Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers as these families are facing complete loss of generational family farms, livestock, and severe damage to land and buildings. While the farmers are weighing heavy on my heart I have to remember that this affects ALL businesses and residents of these communities. So much devastation. Rebuilding will take time and money.

I’m thankful our farmers and vendors are not facing these challenges but know it could happen here as well.

The closer we get to opening day the more excited I get. I’m looking forward to spring green onions, radishes, greens, and all the baked goods, meats and more.

Make sure to take advantage of the March Madness chicken sale and save those bones to make some good broth. Thank you for continuing to order meat from Dos Locos Farm. If you haven’t had any of his pork chops you are missing out!

Enjoy your week and see you Saturday!

Spring is in the air! Our farmers are planting root crops like potatoes, carrots, onions, and more. Greens are already growing well as we’ve seen at Opossum Hollow Farm. Seedlings are growing in greenhouses. Bees are buzzing everywhere enjoying the nectar from the tiniest of the first wildflowers to show up in spring. New worker bees are emerging to help bring in the pollen and nectar for the summer honey harvest. Bacon is growing in the woodland pastures, and steak and chicken are free ranging under the beautiful sun. Chickens are laying eggs a plenty. Life is good on the farm.

It’s a beautiful week for Spring Break. Get outside and soak up some Vitamin D this week. Remember to place an order by Thursday at 10 p.m. See you Saturday!

The March Madness sale on whole chickens will be going on all month! Two 3-3.5 lb chickens for $20!

Opening day for outdoor market season is April 13th in City Park. The market will move to Memorial Park sometime in late spring if weather cooperates with construction.

The Mitchell family, owners of Dos Locos Farm, have an amazing opportunity to fulfill a dream they’ve had for quite sometime. Unfortunately this means they will not be returning to our outdoor market. We appreciate everything they did to ensure our market had meat last year. They went above and beyond! They still have meat to sell so please check out their inventory. Thank you David! Your family will be missed!

Tim and Cheryl of Opossum Hollow Produce are going to raise pork to sell. You may have seen your future bacon in photos on their Facebook and Instagram page. They are living a happy life!

Have a great week, cheer on the bacon, and see you Saturday!
