The outdoor market will open on April 28th, and will be an evening market from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. We are excited to be able to offer the Tuesday evening and Saturday morning 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. market to our community this year!

We have a variety of events and activities planned for this season, to include:

Siloam Springs Extension Homemaker’s Club will be with us every first Saturday.

Kids Day is every second Saturday and the Benton County Master Gardeners will be with us offering children’s activities and adult education.

There will be a local 4-H group with us on the 3rd or 4th Saturday of each month offering activities and information about 4-H.

That is just a peek at few things coming to the market this season. More information will be shared in the weeks leading up to Opening Day!

Spring is officially here and I enjoy seeing the daffodils and forsythia, the trees that are blossoming and those that just have little leaf buds developing. The bees are out working hard and enjoying all the henbit and other small flowers that are popping up all over lawns and fields. I enjoy all the seasons, but watching nature wake up from the long winter rest is amazing. I’m thankful to live in such a beautiful town.

It’s so exciting to think about all the hard work the farmers are doing as they plant greens and other crops as they prepare for the opening of the outdoor market. It’s a blessing to be able to continue the market through winter and to have an indoor location for the Saturday morning pick up but I’m looking forward to being outside again.

Enjoy the beautiful week ahead of us!

As beautiful as the snow was I’m ready for spring and color. Thank you for your patience as we changed the pick up date and delayed re-opening the market.

Change in Market Re-opening time

Due to the weather we had to cancel and re-schedule delivery/pick up for the market orders from the past week. Those who ordered will be able to pick up orders Sunday between 4-5 p.m.

There will be a delay in re-opening the market until after the order pick up Sunday.

I anticipate market to re-open Sunday around 8 p.m. and I will keep it open until 10 p.m. Wednesday instead of 5 p.m.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

We’re thrilled to announce that two of our farmers were awarded 2015 Ozark Slow Food Micro-Grants!

After a competitive application process through Ozark Slow Food, Thomas Fairbanks of Opossum Hollow Produce and Roger & Jennifer Remington of R Family Farm were each selected to receive $800 towards projects that specifically aid the diversification and enhancement of the production and distribution of sustainably grown, locally-produced food in the region.

Tom Fairbanks will use the matching grant towards building a layer house to bring farm-fresh, cage-free, non-GMO eggs to the Siloam Springs Farmers Market. Opossum Hollow Produce is a small retail-oriented farm that sells fresh vegetables, cut flowers, eggs and honey. Everything is naturally grown without chemical spays or fertilizers.

Roger & Jennifer Remington will use the matching grant towards building an egg washing machine that will be installed in a new egg washing station on their farm. Due to a high volume of customers and current Arkansas law regarding number of laying hens at small farms, this will enable them to supply more pastured, non-GMO eggs to meet customer interest. R Family Farm is a pasture based farm supplying the local community with non-GMO and pastured beef, pork, chicken, eggs, and raw milk. Their animals are free of antibiotics, GMOs, steroids, and growth hormones.
Can you tell eggs are in high demand? Glad it looks like we’ll have plenty more at the Farmers Market this year!

With the winter weather we are expecting this is a perfect week for stews, soups, and roasts. Hearty, nourishing, comfort food. How about a scarf or cowl to wrap up in and keep warm? Maybe some jams, jellies, and breakfast items to start the day off right? You will find all these things and more as you shop the online market.

Stay warm and remember, Spring will be here soon!

2015 Market planning is underway. Our farmers and vendors recently attended a class about Good Agricultural Practices and Food safety. The class was presented by Neal Mays, Agriculture Extension Agent for Benton Co., and Dr. Steve Seideman from the University of Arkansas, Innovation Kitchen.

Our Market Manager, Stacy Hester, will be attending the Arkansas Farmers Market Alliance annual meeting in Little Rock this week. Topics to be presented include SNAP benefits, farm to school partnerships, food safety, and market development grants.

We are excited about some new things that will be happening at the market this year. Thank you for supporting the local farmers, bakers, and crafters through the Siloam Springs Farmers Market. We appreciate our customers!
