Dogwood Festival Weekend and the Farmers Market Location

Farmers Market of Siloam Springs

Just a reminder that the Farmers Market will be located in the Arvest Bank parking lot downtown across the street from 28 Springs restaurant. We will be there for our regular 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. market.

You can purchase your meats, eggs, produce, flowers, baked goods and crafts even though the online market was not open. Come by and see us and visit the Dogwood Festival (open until 7 p.m.) and the Homegrown Festival on North Broadway Street, open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Lots going on in our awesome community this weekend!

Online market closed the week of April 20th -26th

The weekend of the 25th -27th is the annual Dogwood Festival. The farmers market re-locates to the Arvest Bank parking lot during that time – Saturday, April 26th we will set up from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the bank parking lot.

Plan to come down that Saturday and enjoy the Dogwood Festival, the Homegrown Festival that will be set up on Broadway St from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and make sure you stop by the farmers market too!

Thank you all so much for a great opening day!

Opening Day April 19, 2014 - Online Market Will Continue

Farmers Market of Siloam Springs

The physical market will open for business Saturday, April 19th! This means the Online Market pick up location will be moving to the concession stand in the park. Within the next couple of weeks I hope to be able to assist some of our produce vendors with setting up their products online.

When you come to the market to pick up your online order you will come to the Market Table to pay for that order. We will provide you with a copy of your invoice to take to the concession stand and pick up your items. The concession stand will be open for the online market from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays.

The Online Market will be CLOSED the week of Dogwood Festival because the market re-locates to the Arvest Bank Parking lot across from 28 Springs.

We have had 20 vendors commit to being at our market each Saturday and 14 commit to being at market each Tuesday. We are pleased to announce that we will have 12 approved WIC vendors this year! Market Management is excited about the variety of meats, produce, baked goods and crafts that our market will be able to offer this year.

Watch our Facebook page ( week for a highlight each day of the vendors that will be with us Opening Day!

Weather is going to take a turn back to cold temps on Monday so make sure you are prepared to cover any vegetation that can’t tolerate a freeze.

See you Saturday!

Market is open for business again! Orders will be accepted through Wednesday at 5 p.m.

When you view the online market this week you will notice that there is no produce currently available. Thao Farms attends a market in Tahlequah on Saturdays and will not be available for the online market through the spring, summer or fall.

We hope to have produce available from our Saturday vendors online soon. I’ve checked in with a couple of them and kale, lettuce, bok choy, spinach and onions will be ready to go for opening day…provided the weather continues to cooperate.

Next weeks newsletter will provide a preview of the vendors for Saturdays and Tuesdays. So stay tuned…..

Countdown to Opening Day in the Park!

It is hard to believe there are only two more Saturdays until opening day on April 19th! The Online Market will continue to be available and the pick up location will be moved to the park where the physical market is located.

Market Management is so thankful that Trish Houston, of Wellspring Nutrition, allowed us to use the space next door for the online pick up through the winter. We appreciate all the support she has given the Farmers Market!

Thank you to all who have been faithfully purchasing during the winter market and supporting this new endeavor to provide locally grown food all year long. We hope you continue to use and enjoy shopping the online Farmers Market year round.

Spring has arrived!

Market is open for business again! Orders will be accepted through Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Only 5 weeks until the physical market opens up! April 19th is the official Opening Day for the 2014 season. The online market will still be available and we hope to add our additional produce vendors online. Orders will continue to be accepted from Sunday -Wednesday each week and pick up will be at the market in the park each Saturday. Meal planning couldn’t be easier with the online market. Plus, you can browse the additional selections before or after you pick up your order.

Here is another recipe to try using spring onions and eggs. Enjoy!

10 thin spring onions
4 large eggs, lightly beaten $
1 cup milk $
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper $
2 tablespoons butter
5 ounces Gruyere cheese, cubed

1. Preheat oven to 400°. Heat a 10-inch cast-iron skillet in oven. Trim roots from onions; discard roots. Chop half of onions.

2. Whisk together eggs and milk. Sift together flour and next 3 ingredients. Gradually add flour mixture to egg mixture, whisking rapidly 20 to 30 seconds or just until blended and smooth. (There should be no lumps.) Stir in chopped onions. Let stand 5 minutes.

3. Carefully remove hot skillet from oven. Add butter, and let stand until butter is melted. Place skillet over medium-high heat, and pour batter into skillet. Arrange cheese and remaining whole onions over top of batter, and cook 30 seconds to 1 minute or until edges begin to set.

4. Transfer skillet to top oven rack, and bake at 400° for 22 to 25 minutes or until golden brown and puffy. (Outside edges should be crispy, and inside texture should resemble a custard popover. Pie will deflate quickly.) Serve immediately.

Spring is almost here!

Farmers Market of Siloam Springs

Market is open for business again! Orders will be accepted through Wednesday at 5 p.m.

One more week and it will officially be Spring! I am anxious to get in my garden and begin planting. I noticed my honey bees flying back into the hive with their tiny legs loaded with pollen. They have been enjoying the warmer temps lately and I am thankful they did well over the winter.

Thao Farms let me know they will have Baby Bok Choy available starting next week and it has been added to the market listings.

Leaving you with a recipe this week…see you next Saturday!

1/2 lb. linguine, uncooked
6 small boneless skinless chicken breasts (1-1/2 lb.)
1/2 tsp. black pepper
2 Tbsp. olive oil, divided
3 zucchini, sliced
3 yellow squash, sliced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1-1/2 cups shredded mozzarella
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
1/4 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese

COOK pasta in large saucepan as directed on package, omitting salt.

MEANWHILE, sprinkle chicken with pepper. Heat 1 Tbsp. oil in large nonstick skillet on medium heat. Add chicken; cook 5 to 7 min. on each side or until done (165ºF). Remove to plate; cover to keep warm. Add remaining oil to same skillet. Add squash; stir-fry 3 min. Add garlic; stir-fry 3 min. or until squash is crisp-tender.

DRAIN pasta, reserving 1/4 cup cooking water. Toss pasta with reserved water in same pan; place on large serving platter. Top with chicken, squash and remaining ingredients.

Market re-opened Sunday afternoon

Hi everyone! Please accept my apologies for getting the market opened late on Sunday. I ended up getting pretty sick Saturday night and just didn’t remember to take care of things.

Market is open and it looks like there are some new items, including some hand knitted Easter goodies.

See you Saturday!

Market is Open!

Farmers Market of Siloam Springs

Market is open for business again! Orders will be accepted through Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Today at the Online Market pick up location we were able to keep the door open and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine! It made us all long for the open air market to be open. Won’t be long and we’ll be meeting in the park again.

Market Management has already met with vendors, given out 2014 applications and set the opening date. Come April 19th we will move over to the park until October. The online market will still be available and the pick up for the online market will be located in the park as well.

I’m looking forward to all the spring veggies and the fellowship that comes with meeting in the park for the Farmers Market. We are busy planning events and music to add to the enjoyment of shopping for locally grown foods, locally made foods and handcrafted items.

Have a blessed week!
